Michael McCabe

Michael McCabe is a senior engineer in the Department of Energy's Building Technologies Program, responsible for the Department's Lighting and Appliance Standards Program.

Mr. McCabe has served in a variety of positions in the Department of Energy during a career spanning nearly 34 years. Recently, Mr. McCabe has served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy as the Program Manager for the Building Technologies Program. Mr. McCabe assumed his current responsibilities in July 2005.

Throughout his career, Mr. McCabe's work has focused mainly on energy efficiency in residential and commercial buildings. For example, in 1996 Mr. McCabe directed the development of the Department's Appliance Standards Process Improvement Rulemaking and, most recently, Mr. McCabe has been responsible for implementation of the requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 regarding energy performance test procedures and energy conservation standards for consumer products and certain commercial and industrial equipment.

Mr. McCabe holds a Science in Chemical Engineering from the Catholic University of America.
